Synopsis

The tale of Aida, made famous by Verdi's 1871 opera, concerns an enslaved African princess, Aida, and her doomed love for the captain of the Egyptian guard, Radames, who is in turn desired by Aida's royal mistress, Amneris.

Heather Headley, in an acclaimed performance as the title character in Elton John & Tim Rice's "Aida," won the Drama Desk Award for Best Actress in a Musical. The awards were presented May 14, 2000 in a ceremony held at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts
