In this movie Rodgers and Hart experimented with a technique called rhythmic dialogue, which required Jolson to sing not only his songs but his lines. Since much of the singing dialogue was written in Lorenz Hart rhyme, it had it's bright spots, but Hallelujah turned out to be more experimental than successful. It's biggest song, "You Are Too Beautiful" survived by itself.
