This documentary tracks the junior production of Stephen Sondheim's "Into the Woods," featuring 140 Washington, DC public school children in a performance at the Kennedy Center. The film captures the growth and transformation of these children, who were given a rare theater experience.
"Children Will Listen" is a one hour show that follows the process of students in 4th-8th grades from seven Washington, DC inner city schools as they design, costume and perform in a production of Stephen Sondheim's musical play "Into the Woods" supervised by three professionals from the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. This film captures the students' journey from first hearing about the play through design, audition and opening performance at the American Film Institute Theater of the Kennedy Center in May of 2002, where Mr. Sondheim attended the event.
