Seussical The Musical

On the 6th of Feb, in the Jungle Of Nool,
In the heat of the day, in the cool of the pool.
He was splashing... enjoying the jungle's great joys..
When Horton the elephant heard a large noise.

So Horton stopped splashing. He looked toward the sound.
Thousands of people with smiles all abound.
The noise it had come from the people who stared.
And clapped their hands swiftly through the cool air.

All sneetches were happy that day in the land.
Daisy-head Mayzie ate green eggs and ham
Even the Grinch, he was dancing with Gertrude McFuzz.
As the Cat in the Hat sang and does what he does.

And some of these stories came to life on that stage.
In the New city of York as a new Broadway play.
The music was thrilling as the audience cheered
For on this sixth of Feb. they could buy it to hear.

In your hand, you are lucky, because you hold in case
A round disc, in the middle a hole in its place.
A special toy will you use to play this round disc
Seussical The Musical featuring all of it's hits.

Some Reviews Received!

This is one whimsical cast album!

At first hearing, I didn't think I was going to like it what with all the Rock opera wannabes with their emphasis on dark themes and solemness of spirit. But, guess what. I like this one!

The music is a collage of styles ranging from 50's rock to jive to gospel to lyrical. If you listen hard, you can "Chop Sticks" in a ragtime mode. On my second hearing, I got to see the characters more clearly (such as "The Cat In The Hat" and "Horton" and all those "Who's"), though I wish the voices were a bit more distinctive with their characterizations.

Standouts were Janine LaManna as Gertrude Mcfuzz, Kevin Chamberlin as Horton and Sharon Wilkins as Sour Kangaroo. The Music (by Stephen Flaherty) and Lyrics (by Lynn Ahrens) captures the essence and franetic pace of one Theodore Geisel (aka as Dr. Suess) with their bouncy tunes such as "The Opening ", "How Lucky You Are", and "The One Feather Tail Of Miss Gertrude Mcfuzz".

My only gripe is that I kind of wished that they would have made it more of a Bio of Dr Suess (T. Geisel) and what made him think of these characters that taught us humanity. But, that's for another show, I guess. This one will do fine for now.

An excellent Broadway Musical Cast album for the whole family. How's this for a compliment! My 13 year old nephew who's into hip-hop and all the top 40 music was also listening to this album; thought it was great: and now he can't wait to see the show!  ~ Gary Piacentini
